Kate Carroll de Gutes is at work on a collection of essays that seeks to subvert traditional gender narratives by exploring how butch women dismantle conventional modes of masculinity and inhabit a territory of identity that has nothing to do with cisgender men. Their books, Objects In Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear (Ovenbird Books, 2015) and The Authenticity Experiment: Lessons From the Best and Worst Year of My Life (Two Sylvias, 2017), won multiple National Book Awards.
