Paul Harding Named Fiction Editor of Ploughshares

(October 1, 2025) BOSTON, MA—Ploughshares has announced Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Paul Harding as its Fiction Editor.

Ploughshares, one of the country’s most prestigious literary magazines, has been based at Emerson College in downtown Boston since 1989. Founded in 1971, the publication features poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, and has published fiction by literary greats including Tim O’Brien, Tobias Wolff, ZZ Packer, Charles Baxter, Paul Yoon, and many others. Stories published in Ploughshares have received awards and recognition from numerous prizes and anthologies, including the Best American  Short Stories, the O. Henry Prize, and the Pushcart Prize. Paul Harding is the author of three novels: the Pulitzer Prize-winning Tinkers, Enon, and This Other Eden, which was a finalist for the National Book Award and shortlisted for the Booker Prize. He has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and PEN America. He is a Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing at Emerson College.
