Round-Up: Langston Hughes’ House, Amazon’s New Store, and THE LUMINARIES
From the battle to save Langston Hughes’ house to The Luminaries being made into a mini series, here’s the latest literary news:
- Artists are fighting to save the home of great American writer Langston Hughes. Located in Harlem, where property values are rising, some fear that the “Hughes House” will be bought and turned into condos or shops. Artist Renee Watson started an Indiegogo campaign to rent the house and turn it into a cultural center that honors the work of Hughes.
- Amazon has confirmed it will be opening a physical bookstore in Chicago. The 7,200 sq. ft. store will be located in Chicago’s Southport Corridor. The shop, slated to open next year, comes after the opening of Amazon bookstores in Seattle; San Diego; and Portland, Oregon.
- The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton–winner of the 2013 Man Booker Prize –is making its way to the small screen. BBC is set to adapt the 832-page novel into a mini series, with Catton also writing the script.
