From the Shanghai Children’s Book Fair to the closing of the Barnes & Noble in the Bronx, here are last week’s biggest literary headlines:

  • The Shanghai Children’s Book Fair (CCBF) will take place November 18-20 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition Center. The CCBF is expecting more than 10,000 trade visitors, which is a 30% increase compared to last year. Randy Wang, the director of the fair, noted that “last year the children’s book market volume grew by 15.6%, which represents a much higher growth rate compared to the average growth of the publishing market.”
  • As part of Books on the Underground campaign to promote sharing books with fellow Underground commuters, Emma Watson has been leaving copies of her latest book club selection on the Underground. She chose Maya Angelou’s Mom & Me & Mom as her current selection on her Goodreads “Our Shared Self” feminist book club. Books on the Underground was founded in 2012 with the mission of sharing a wide variety of books with Underground travelers.
  • The Barnes & Noble in the Bronx has announced that it will close in January due to higher rent sought by its landlord. This comes two years after it almost closed due to increased rent. It remained open after a public outcry and after elected officials assisted in the rent negotiations. It will be replaced by a Saks Off 5th store. Barnes & Noble has said it was committed to reopening in the Bronx at some point.
