Erland Josephson
Erland Josephson (1923–2012), widely acclaimed as a stage and screen actor, with major roles in films by Ingmar Bergman, Andrei Tarkovsky, and other leading directors, also distinguished himself as an author, having published radio plays, screenplays, nine novels, and five volumes of memoirs. The New York Times Book Review said of his novel A Story about Mr. Silberstein (Northwestern University Press, 1995): “In Roger Greenwald’s accomplished translation, it emerges as an unsettling portrait of anti-Semitism in postwar Sweden.” (Updated 10/2026)
