Intern
Our internship program is currently on hiatus. Please check back in January 2025.
All internships are in person volunteer positions that require approximately 15 hours per week for one semester. Interns receive credit in the journal’s masthead and a complimentary year’s subscription to Ploughshares.
Those wishing to apply for an internship should email a cover letter, résumé, and the completed intern application form (Editorial, Marketing) to managingeditor@pshares.org. All applicants must submit their files in either .doc or .pdf formats.
You may submit applications for multiple positions. Every applicant will receive a response to their application.
Application Deadlines
Spring (January-May): October 15
Summer (May-August): February 15
Fall (September-December): August 15
Internship Responsibilities
Editorial Intern:
The Editorial Intern aids the Editorial Assistants in sorting submissions; updating the log of galleys and literary journals; mailing products from the office; responding to email queries from Ploughshares authors, readers, and subscribers; conducting a variety of research projects; and performing basic administrative tasks as needed.
Marketing Intern:
The Marketing Intern works closely with the Marketing Assistant to promote all Ploughshares content and announcements through direct outreach, traditional publicity, and social media. As an outward-facing member of the Ploughshares masthead, the Marketing Intern applies strong editorial skills and a critical eye to the journal’s online presence. General tasks include maintaining and analyzing social media activity, composing and distributing issue descriptions and press releases, and engaging with literary media partners and publishers.
